By Jordan Kuehne

LOVES PARK, IL (Saturday, April 25, 2009) – Despite Mother Nature’s best efforts, Rockford Speedway will be kicking off its historic 62nd season of racing action tonight at 7:07 p.m. The 32nd annual Spring Classic, which was rescheduled for tomorrow afternoon after inclement weather postponed the event last weekend, will also be ran as scheduled.

Tonight’s 62nd Season Opener presented by Pepsi will feature the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series with the NASCAR Stanley Steemer Late Models in action as Jerry Gille looks to defend his title against Ricky Bilderback, Alex Papini, Jon Reynolds Jr., Tim Noble and other competitors. Racing beside the Late Models will be the Bargain Hunter Sportsmen, Budweiser American Short Trackers, and the Mountain Dew RoadRunners, plus the Sam’s Drive-In RoadRunner Drags. Racing begins at 7:07 p.m. with qualifying at 6:05 p.m. Gates will open at 5 p.m.

The 32nd annual Spring Classic will take to the historic oval tomorrow afternoon after a one week delay. The event will feature the BRP Big 8 Series presented by Gandrud Chevrolet in their season-opening SPYDER 108, as well as the Mid-American Stock Car Series taking on the high-banked quarter-mile in a 50 lap contest. Last weekend saw 38 Big 8 Late Models take the track during practice while nearly 20 Mid-American Stock Cars were in attendance. The green flag will wave at 1 p.m. with qualifying at 11:15 a.m. and the gates opening at 11 a.m.
