LOVES PARK, IL (Saturday, April 25, 2009) – Due to inclement weather expected to continue throughout the evening, Rockford Speedway has cancelled its racing program for tonight. The 32nd annual Spring Classic, rescheduled for tomorrow afternoon after inclement weather postponed the event last weekend, will be ran as scheduled.
Light rain began to fall in the area and precipitation was expected to continue throughout the evening, forcing the cancellation of the 62nd Season Opener presented by Pepsi. All tickets bought for tonight’s race will be valid for any regular Saturday night racing program through the end of the 2009 season as well as for tomorrow’s 32nd annual Spring Classic. The new season opener for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will be next Saturday, May 2nd, with the green flag flying on the 2009 season at 7:07 p.m., qualifying at 6:05 p.m. and spectator gates opening at 5 p.m.
The 32nd annual Spring Classic will take to the historic oval tomorrow afternoon as scheduled after a one week delay. The event will feature the BRP Big 8 Series presented by Gandrud Chevrolet in their season-opening SPYDER 108, as well as the Mid-American Stock Car Series taking on the high-banked quarter-mile in a 50 lap bout. Last weekend saw 38 Big 8 Late Models take the track during practice while nearly 20 Mid-American Stock Cars were in attendance. The green flag will wave at 1 p.m. with qualifying at 11:15 a.m. and the gates opening at 11 a.m.
