LOVES PARK, IL (Wednesday, June 24, 2009) – Chargin’ Charlie Frisch made a late race pass on Joe LaMarca to pick up the win in the Mtn Dew RoadRunners Super Summer Series feature event tonight at the Rockford Speedway. Nick Lasher picked up his second straight victory in the 15-lap Crap Scrappers Hornet swarm. Cory Cootware, Tom Schneider, Robin Ulrey, Dwight Dunlap and Adam Rawski also collected feature victories.
The action was fast and furious during the early stages of the 25-lap Mtn Dew RoadRunners Super Summer Series feature. Kris Nilson and Jason Brockway brought the caution out one lap in after they got together in turn one. Josh Carter took the lead on the restart, but didn’t hold it for long as Joe LaMarca grabbed first after six circuits.
Gene Marocco and Charlie Frisch both worked their way by Carter for second and third and immediately began battling for second. Halfway in, Frisch took the second spot away from Marocco and set his sights on the lead. Frisch made his move on LaMarca for the top spot with eight laps remaining and managed to hold on for the victory.
LaMarca, Marocco, Brockway and Ricky Nielson rounded out the top five.
Alan Bekielewski grabbed the lead with four laps to go and held on to win in an exciting 15-lap swarm for the Crap Scrapper Hornets. Bekielewski would be disqualified after inspection though, giving the victory to Nick Lasher instead.
Tim Dix led the first 11 laps in the headline event for the Hornets, but Bekielewski made a three-wide pass work in turn one jumping from third to first with four to go. Lasher followed Bekielewski into second and picked up his second feature win of 2009 after Bekielewski’s disqualification.
Dix, Devon Dixon, Steve McBride and Mark Vicencio completed the top five.
Robin Ulrey copied Felisha Morgan’s blueprint from last Wednesday night and made her way from the back to the front in the Stateline Staffing Services Winged Women on Wheels 12-lap main event.
Morgan led when the white flag waved but Ulrey, making a last ditch effort entering turn one, got into Morgan’s car sending the leader around on the backstretch. Ulrey managed to keep it off the wall and bring it home for the win.
Morgan, Jenn Bohlken, Alison Nichol and Olivia Chance finished the top five.
Dwight Dunlap held off an early challenge from Mark Hayes to bring home the win in the Allison Legacy feature. Hayes spun exiting turn two three laps in and Dunlap took advantage, collecting his third feature win of the season at Rockford. Bill Fox, Hayes, and Brian Heaberlin rounded out the field.
Adam Rawski picked up the victory in the INEX Legends 15-lap headliner. Cory Cootware was second.
In the National Figure 8 League main event, Tom Schneider made it two for two in 2009, collecting the win. Joe LaMarca took the runner-up spot.
5th grader Cory Cootware won the INEX Bandoleros 8-lap feature, holding off Morgan Malachi.
