LaMarca Lands in Victory Lane on Wild Wednesday at Rockford

By Jordan Kuehne

LOVES PARK, IL. (Wednesday, July 29, 2009) – Joe LaMarca grabbed the lead early and held on late, going wire-to-wire to win the Mtn Dew RoadRunners Super Summer Series 25-lap feature event tonight at the Rockford Speedway. LaMarca held off late charges from Alex Papini and ‘Chargin’ Charlie Frisch for the trophy. Steve McBride inherited the lead halfway through the 15-lap Crap Scrappers Hornet swarm and grabbed his first feature win of 2009 in the division. Rachael Pinkerman, Dwight Dunlap, Robin Ulrey, Cory Cootware and ‘Chargin’ Charlie Frisch also collected feature wins on the evening.

Joe LaMarca jumped out to an early lead in the 25-lap Mtn Dew RoadRunners Super Summer Series headliner as Dan Lignell and Alex Papini battled for second behind him. Papini took second from Lignell as fast qualifier ‘Chargin’ Charlie Frisch followed him into third with ten laps remaining.

Papini and Frisch began battling for second with five laps remaining as they both tried to chase down LaMarca out front. Papini and Frisch managed to close the gap significantly over the final portion of the race but LaMarca held off their challenge to collect the win as Papini took second over Frisch.

Jason Brockway came home fourth while Lignell finished fifth.

Jake Vicencio was the early leader in the 15-lap Crap Scrappers Hornets swarm, leading the first seven laps before heading into the pits under caution. Once Vicencio exited the track, Steve McBride inherited the lead with eight circuits to go.

Mark Vicencio restarted in third but made the move on Tim Dix for second as he turned his sights toward the leader. Vicencio’s effort wasn’t enough though as McBride held on for his first feature victory of the season.

Derek Dixon, Justin Pearson and Allen Bekielewski completed the top five.

Rachael Pinkerman snatched the lead on the opening lap of the INEX Legends 20-lap headliner and immediately came under fire from 14-year-old Bobby Yonkee. Tom Palma joined the fray and made it a three-way battle for the lead five laps later as Yonkee continued to peek on the inside of Pinkerman in the turns.

Yonkee, making a last gasp effort for the win coming out of turn four to the white flag, bounced off of Pinkerman and slid up in front of Palma who tapped Yonkee’s right-rear quarter panel turning him into the frontstretch wall. Pinkerman and Palma kept it together and finished the race out front.

Pinkerman collected her third straight Wild Wednesday feature victory in the division, as Palma, Cullen Comastra, Kyle Jusits and Rich Miller rounded out the top five.

Robin Ulrey made a three-wide pass for the lead and held off a charging Olivia Chance’s late effort for the victory in the Stateline Staffing Services Winged Women on Wheels 12-lap main event. Ulrey managed to make her car wide enough to hold off a final attempt by Chance out of turn four to take the checkers first.

Felisha Morgan, Jocelyn Davenport and Chandale Swartout finished off the top five.

Cory Cootware, once again pulling double duty driving in both the INEX Legends and Bandoleros tonight, won an action-packed 12-lap INEX Bandoleros feature grabbing the lead three laps in and holding on to pick up the trophy.

Christian Warren took second away from Morgan Melichar halfway in and held her off for the bridesmaid’s position, as Melichar, Jimmy Wessel and Johnny Kringas completed the top five.

Dwight Dunlap picked up his sixth feature win of the season in the 15-lap Allison Legacy main event, making an early pass on Bill Fox for the lead.

Fox and Brian Heaberlin came home second and third to round out the field.

‘Chargin’ Charlie Frisch finally broke Tom Schneider’s streak in the National Figure 8 League becoming the first driver other than Schneider to collect a feature win in the division this year as Dennis Smith Jr. came home second.

Schneider, Justin Hawkins and Michael Neblock rounded out the top five.
