Tuesday, September 18, 2007 (Loves Park, IL) – Last year, Jeremy Lepak of Wausau, WI saw a personal dream come true, to win at the National Short Track Championships at the Rockford Speedway. This year, Lepak will return try to repeat what he did last year.
“Oh yeah, we are definitely coming back,” Lepak recently stated in a passing conversation at The Milwaukee Mile. In fact, last year when he won he even stated, “One way or another we will find a race car.”
Lepak’s success is due in much with his association to famed car owner, Jerry Gunderman. “Everybody on this race team, my family, they know where started,” Lepak stated in victory lane last year. “We used to hook up race cars to pine trees to straighten them out because we were just a low dollar deal. To get this deal with Jerry is a dream comes true. You don’t find a better car owner; he gives you everything you need to win.”
Along with the victory last year, Lepak also set a new track record of 12.961 seconds. He would then go own to lead the final 63 laps of the 200 lap event en route to the win.
This year, Lepak will be competing in the National Short Track Super Late Model division. It’s an open division with no sanctioning fees or points to worry about. The rules are designed to allow just about any Super Late Model to come and compete in the 200-lap event scheduled for Sunday, September 30th that pays $1,000 to start and $3,000 to win.
The NST Super Late Models will qualify on Saturday afternoon, September 29th and will have qualifying races that evening starting at 5:05 p.m. The racing action will get underway at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, September 30th.
A total of 12 divisions will be competing over the three days of September 28-30th. For more information and a schedule for the weekend, please visit the track’s website at www.rockfordspeedway.com or call the track office at (815) 633-1500. Overnight parking is allowed and fans are encouraged to stay after on Friday and Saturday night for post-race parties in the Budweiser Pavilion.
Make your plans now to be a part of the 42nd Annual Chicago International Trucks National Short Track Championships. It’s “One Great Racing Weekend!!!”
