SCHILL TO RETURN TO NATIONAL SHORT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS

Thursday, September 13, 2007 (Loves Park, IL) – Rockford Speedway officials have announced that 1984 National Short Track Champion, Al Schill, will return to the historic event on September 28-30th. Schill will be looking for his second NSTC championship in the National Short Track Super Late Model 200-lap event on Sunday afternoon, September 30th.

“We are excited to have Al Schill return to the Rockford Speedway,” Speedway General Manager Gregg McKarns stated. “This event is well known for having the best drivers compete against each other and we are excited that Al Schill is coming back to compete at Rockford again. The entry list is looking like a who’s who in racing, no matter what generation you grew up in. This will be one event you do not want to miss.”

Schill has over 42 years of racing competition under his belt. He is a five-time late model track champion at the Slinger Super Speedway (1984, 85, 86, 87, 88) and even won the Modified championship at Slinger in 1993. He also has collected track championships at Hales Corners and Lake Geneva Raceways. This season he has two feature wins at Slinger and had five feature wins in 2006.

Schill also has six ARTGO series wins in his career. Three of those came at Rockford. He won the Spring Classic in April, 1982 where he was the first competitor to win using the 9:1 engine. He also won the Spring Classic in 1985 and the All-Star 100 Tuesday Night ARTGO special in 1987.

The National Short Track Super Late Models will be one of 12 divisions competing at the 42nd Annual Chicago International Trucks National Short Track Championships event, which will run from September 28-30. A full schedule is available to download at www.rockfordspeedway.com.
