Loves Park, IL (August 22, 2010) Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Model drivers seemed to be on their best behavior with only one caution during the 30 lap feature. The caution was brought out on lap nine, when Jake Gille and Mike Lloyd got into each other on the back stretch while battling for the lead. Both cars were sent to the back, and racing resumed with Mikie Breiner in first and Jon Reynolds Jr. in second. The top five cars were tightly packed for the remainder of the race.
With 14 laps to go Breiner was in the lead with Reynolds in second, Tim Sargent in third, and Kyle Shear in fourth, it stayed that way till the end, when Breiner and Reynolds were battling for the lead and wrecked coming to the checkered flag. Coming out of turn four both Breiner and Reynolds were pushing hard, Breiner was looking for his first feature win of the season while Reynolds was looking for yet another return to victory lane. Just feet away from the start/finish line Breiner and Reynolds got together, ending any chance of a win for both drivers. Sargent was also involved in the wreck, he lost his front bumper but managed to get to the checkered before anyone else, with Shear following close behind for second and Reynolds spinning across the start/finish line for third.
Kyle Lapier had a strong night in the Budweiser American Short Tracker Feature, he began his night in second place and went on to win. Lapier battled Keith Pierce for first place for most of the 25 lap feature. Lapier tried to make a move on Pierce several times, and each time Pierce maintained his lead.
Nick Cina Jr. caught up to the leaders and gave Lapier a run for his money, they battled door to door for second place. With three laps to go Pierce, Lapier and Cina were in a heated battle for first and second place, when a lap car almost wreaked havoc, destruction was avoided as the lapped car dove down the track and out of the way of the leaders. The upset was just enough for Lapier to get around Pierce for the lead and B.J. Sparkman to get around Cina for third. Lapier was able to lengthen his lead and take the checkered flag for a fourth time this year.
The always entertaining Mtn Dew RoadRunners delivered as expected. Shawn Rickelman pulled away early, but Dennis Smith Jr. and Howie Ware quickly caught up
and successfully passed him, putting Smith in the lead, Ware in second and Rickelman in third.
The yellow was brought out on lap five due to Jason Van Hise facing the wrong way in turn three. On the restart five cars tried to go five wide in turn two, the ensuing chaos did not bring out a caution.
The Ageless Wonder Gene Marocco moved up to fourth on lap nine. Howie Ware and Dave Lumsden Jr. battled for second allowing Smith to pull away with the lead.
Marocco moved up two spots in two laps, passing both Ware and Lumsden, to finish second, as Smith took the checkered flag, Lumsden finished third with Robert Roush sneaking into fourth.
This weeks RoadRunner Challenge went along with the theme of the evening. It was the Great Bike Give-A-Way with on track Bike races for kids, and the RoadRunner Challenge was fittingly enough, a drivers bike race. Ten drivers competed in the Challenge, eight finished while two cut through the infield. Robert Roush reigned supreme wining the challenge with Jason Van Hise a close second.
The Central State Super Cups made a return to Rockford with two features, the youngsters started out the night with a 15 lap Super Cup Junior Feature. Tyler Brown took the lead on lap one, and stayed there for the remainder of the race. Jaret James challenged Brown for the lead on lap 4, but spun coming to the start finish line. Brown was able to finish the race unchallenged and James ended up in seventh.
Jamie Domski and Tony Valez pulled away early in the Super Cup Pro Feature, but their dominance did not last. With eight laps to go, Ed Ensor was able to catch up and successfully pass Velez for second, Ensor went on to pass Domski for the lead a lap later.
Domski and Valez battled neck and neck for second, allowing Ensor to pull away, he led the field by half a straight away with two laps to go.
Ensor went on to win the race with Domski in second and Velez in third.
