Saturday Night Action and USAC Midgets on Sunday Afternoon Highlight a Fun Weekend.
LOVES PARK, IL (Friday, May 16, 2008) - Two exciting and historical events will highlight this weekend's racing action at the Rockford Speedway. Race fans will be able to take it the traditional Saturday racing action and, for the first time since 1979, the USAC Midgets will challenge the high-banked oval on Sunday afternoon.
On Saturday, it's Just Engineering Kid's Night with the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series in action along with a School's Almost Out Smash with a School Bus jump.
All kids, 11 & under, will get FREE admission with the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models, Budweiser American Short Trackers, Coca-Cola RoadRunners, and Supercups in action. The Popeye's Mini Grand Prix and Driver/Fan Egg Toss are also on the schedule.
On Sunday afternoon, the USAC Midget Series will make its first appearance to the Rockford Speedway since 1979 with its Midget Maynia Tour with qualifying at 1 pm and racing scheduled to start at 2 pm. Gates open at noon with practice starting at noon.
16 year old USAC National Midget Point Leader, Cole Whitt along Tracy Hines, Bobby East, Jerry Coons Jr., Brad Sweet, Dave Darland, Dave Steele, Brad Kuhn and Chad Boat are also scheduled to compete.
Over 40 USAC Midgets and over 35 IRS Midgets are entered for Sunday.
This will be the final day of a three race swing through Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. On Friday night, the USAC Midgets will invade La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, WI. Then on Saturday, a new record could be set as they challenge Slinger Super Speedway.
