When the calendar changed to 2012, Marengo’s Adam Cartwright had zero career RoadRunner victories to his credit. Already this young season he has two RockStar Energy RoadRunner feature triumphs and last week he added a Figure 8 trophy to his mantle. Wednesday night, Cartwright’s winning ways continued at Rockford Speedway as he collected the win in RoadRunner Super Summer Series action during Special Needs Wild Wednesday Night. Tim Dickson capitalized on his late race charge to capture Bandit honors as Tracy Wallin won the Winged Women on Wheels event, Dwight Dunlap and Vernon Brown were the Misfit victors and Derek Dobbs visited victory lane following Figure 8 action.

The twenty-five lap feature for the RoadRunners got off to a rough start as Champions and Challengers collided down the backstretch as the field looked to complete the first lap. Robert Roush, Kyle McQuality, David Pautsch, Jr and Alex Papini were all involved with only Roush able to continue once the dust settled. Once racing resumed, Dave Lumsden, Jr jumped to the point where he would fight off Adam Cartwright for no less than twenty laps. Two time RRSSS Champ Gene Marocco would join in the battle for the top spot, inching ahead of Cartwright on multiple occasions. With three laps remaining, the bottom line finally prevailed for Cartwright who went onto victory. Lumsden, Jr held off Marocco over the closing laps to record the runner-up finish, Roush and Ken Brazee rounded out the top five.

Jay Orr and Tim Dickson put some distance between their two Bandits and the rest of the pack through the midway point of the Bandit feature. Orr appeared to be fighting a loose condition and when the duo caught lapped traffic it allowed Dickson to pull to Orr’s back bumper. Coming out of turn four with Dickson on the inside Orr’s machine hiccupped and that was all Dickson needed to jump into position one. Current point leader Terry Ciano, Jr relegated Orr to third with five laps to go and quickly caught Dickson. On the white flag lap, a mess of lapped traffic caused the two leaders to take decisive action, both cars darted toward the infield grass and the scramble was on to the finish line. When the checkered flag fell, it was Dickson, Ciano, Jr, Orr, Trevor Robinson and fast qualifier Christopher Jones.

A caution with five laps to go which involved leader Wanda Dobbs and second place Cassidy Faust shook up the Winged Women on Wheels Feature event. Second year and second generation driver Tabatha Bennett found herself at the front of the field. For three laps she kept Stacy Roach at bay, former division Champion Tracy Wallin cruised into second with two laps to go and kept her momentum going on the inside line to squeeze past Bennett for the win. Jocelyn Davenport recovered well from a trip into ‘the point’ in her heat race to record a third place effort, Stacy Roach was fourth with Chandale Swartwout in fifth place.

Derek Dobbs held off a determined Dennis Smith, Jr for the Figure 8 victory while Vernon Brown and Dwight Dunlap scored the Misfit feature wins.

Racing action continues this Saturday night when Cintas presents Scouts Night, all scouts in uniform are admitted free. Racing action will include the NASCAR Stanley Steemer Late Models, Bargain Hunter Sportsman, RockStar Energy RoadRunners, Sam’s Drive-In Hare ‘N Hound Race plus the return on the open wheeled Illini Midgets.
