Rockford Speedway CEO Jody Deery is spending her Wednesday in North Carolina. However, this is no normal midweek vacation.
Deery is one of only 55 people in American stock car racing and one of only three women who are taking part in the voting for the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Deery and the other 54 voters will make their decisions today on the five inductees for the 2014 NASCAR Hall.
Deery is just one of four operators of historic NASCAR short tracks who get to weigh in on the yearly proceedings. The other operators joining her in the voting are Dale Pinilis of Bowman Gray Stadium in North Carolina, Jim and Barbara Cromarty from Riverhead Raceway in New York and Robert Pressley of Kingsport Speedway in Tennessee.
The panel also includes a who's who of American motorsports including "The King" Richard Petty, legendary broadcaster Ken Squier, famous promoter Humpy Wheeler and NASCAR President Mike Helton. One representative from each manufacturer (Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota), three former crew chiefs and three former team owners are also included in the voting.
