The Roadrunners will also participate in the Sam’s Drive In Roadrunner Challenge, which this week is the very popular “Forward/Backward Race.” Gates open at 5 pm, with Qualifying at 5:55 and the first green flag at 7:07. Adult general admission tickets are $12, students ages 12-17 are $8 and kids 6-11 are $5 and all kids 5 and under are free!
EXCITING LATE MODEL RACING RETURNS THIS WEEKEND!
After a rare ‘off weekend’, the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models return to the Rockford Speedway to begin the second half of their racing season this weekend. Through 10 races, Machesney Park’s Alex Papini leads the point standings by a commanding 34-point margin. Papini started the 2013 season strong, winning the season opening Big 8 Series ‘Spring Classic’, then capturing four of the first five Saturday night features in the NASCAR Late Model division. “Driver X” Jon Reynolds Jr has vaulted to second in the standings, thanks in part to a couple of feature wins in the last month. Reynolds sits just eight points ahead of three-time and defending track champion Jerry Gille, who sits third in third place and was the driver who broke Papini’s season opening winning streak back in the Spring. Steve Rubeck and Jake Gille have both smelled victory in the Late Models in 2013 and the last time Late Models hit the track, seven-time track champion Ricky Bilderback was the big winner of the “Star Spangled 76” lap feature event. Can Papini capture his first Late Model title in wire-to-wire fashion? Will Reynolds’ mid-summer hot streak lead him to a first ever crown? Or can Jerry Gille make a run at a fourth track championship? The second half of the ‘great Late Model chase’ begins this Saturday night…!
GREAT NORTHERN SPORTSMAN SERIES TRAVELS TO ROCKFORD ON ‘WILD WEDNESDAY!’
The Great Northern Sportsman Series will make its first of two trips to the Rockford Speedway this upcoming Wednesday night, July 17 as part of Encompass Gas’ ‘Wild Wednesday!’ The Series, in its first year, is a showcase of the best Sportsman drivers in the region. In the Series’ first ever race in June at Veterans Raceway Park in Tomah, Wisconsin, Jim Tate Jr was victorious. Tate comes into Rockford with a lot of momentum. Not only is Tate the Jefferson Speedway point leader, but Tate also has notched a victory this year at Rockford. On July 4th, Tate bested 17 other competitors to win the evening’s Bargain Hunter Sportsman feature. A strong field of “out-of-town” Sportsman along with the very best Rockford Speedway has to offer will compete in this special midweek event.
