LOVES PARK, IL (Saturday, July 26, 2008) – Butch Swinbank and Gene Marocco took home feature wins in support of the ASA Late Model Series North division event at Rockford Speedway. A great crowd was on hand to watch two of Rockford’s weekly divisions run alongside the touring series that was won by Trent Snyder.

Ron Young was the early leader in the 25-lap feature for the Bargain Hunter Sportsman division.

Chris Gantz made the charge from his tenth starting position to third after four laps. In front of Gantz, Swinbank would get around Young and take the top spot with Gantz moving into second on lap five.

Three laps later, Gantz worked his way to Swinbank’s back bumper to challenge for the lead. Gantz got to the inside of Swinbank on lap 11 to challenge but Swinbank would hold him off on this attempt.

Gantz would make another attempt with seven laps to go, but would get loose coming off of turn four and would allow Swinbank to hold on to the lead.

On the last lap, Gantz would make one last attempt but Swinbank would continue to run his consistent line and hold off Gantz for the win.

Brock Behnke was third with Fred Nason in fourth. Young would round out the top five.

Marocco, once again, was the class of the field in the Coca-Cola RoadRunner division.

Lloyd Hawkins was the early leader in the 20-lap feature with Raymond Hardesty in second.

Hawkins was leading until he got loose going into turn one as it appeared he slipped in some fluid causing a major wreck with five cars involved. This handed the lead over to David Lignell.

Lignell led at the re-start with Gene Marocco in tow. Marocco would get on the inside of Lignell with six laps to go. Marocco would take over the top spot with four laps to go.

Marocco would quickly pull away from Lignell and take another feature win with Lignell in second. Richard Nielsen was third with Ricky Nielsen in fourth. Vachenzia Jester rounded out the top five.

In other racing action, David Cerer won the Adult Supercup division with Eric Gehrke in second.

It was not an easy drive for Cerer as he had the front bumper of Gehrke in his rear view mirror throughout the entire race.

Cerer would go wire-to-wire holding off a late Eric Gehrke’s last lap attempt to the lead to take home the win. Mick Ellis was third.

Morgan Schissel was the early leader in the 25-lap feature for the Junior Supercups. Schissel’s lead would only last one lap as Kyle Brinkman would take over the top spot on lap two.

Camden Murphy got on the back bumper of Brinkman on lap four allowing the two to breakaway from the rest of the field. On lap eight, Murphy would make a slingshot pass on the inside of Brinkman going into turn one. The two would race side-by-side allowing Jake Zellmer to join the battle for the lead while Murphy and Brinkman would swap back the lead back and forth.

Zellmer was looking for a way to get past the two but with Murphy and Brinkman running side-by-side, all he could do is wait for one to clear. Murphy would take over the top spot with seven laps to go.

Schissel would spin with three laps to go to bring out a caution. Murphy would continue to lead all the way to the checkered flag with Zellmer in second with Brinkman in third.

Yellowbook will present an even of Wild Wednesday action starting at 7:07 pm.

Next Saturday night, it’s the Finnegan’s RV World Famous Trailer Race.
