The 48th Annual National Short Track Championships (NSTC) are only one week away and entries for the premiere event of “One Great Racing Weekend” continue to pour in from all over the Midwest! As of Thursday morning, thirty-six top notch drivers have signed up to test the Rockford ‘high banks.’ The list includes five former event winners and numerous current or former track champions from throughout the region. Past winners of the race who will return to Rockford looking to once again wear ‘the wreath’ include Eddie Hoffman, Jeremy Lepak, Josh Nelms, Steve Rubeck and defending NSTC race winner Rich Bickle. Area short tracks will be well represented also, with 2013 track champions Casey Johnson (Madison), Steve Apel (Slinger), Adam Royle (Elko) and 15 year old Pauly Shafer (Illiana) looking to add their name to the list of legends. Long-time racing veterans like Neenah Wisconsin’s Lowell Bennett, Monee Illinois’ Mike White and seven-time Rockford Speedway champ Ricky Bilderback are also looking to be in the mix for the big trophy. Other local favorites entered for NSTC include former Spring Classic winner and Chicagoland racing legend Larry Schuler, along with seven-time Rockford Speedway track champion Bobby Wilberg, former All Star 100 & Spring Classic winner Michael Bilderback and “Driver X” Jon Reynolds Jr, a four-time winner in the NASCAR Late Model division at Rockford Speedway this year. Super Late Models will have their qualifying session for NSTC next Saturday afternoon with all cars running preliminary events on Saturday night. Sunday afternoon includes Last Chance Races and the 48th Annual National Short Track Championship 200 lap feature race.
