The stage is set for an unbelievable afternoon of racing at Rockford Speedway this Sunday afternoon April 14 during the 36th annual Spring Classic presented by Yellowbook. Currently 38 of the top weekly late model teams from three states will by battling their way to one of the 24 starting positions in Sunday’s main event, the Big 8 Late Model Series 108 lap feature. The always exciting Mid-American Stock Car Series will contest a 50 lap feature while the cars of yesteryear will go 20 laps in the IL Vintage Racing Series feature.

Loves Park, IL- Defending Spring Classic winner Jon Reynolds, Jr has filed his entry for this Sunday’s Big 8 Late Model Series 108 lap feature at Rockford Speedway. Driver X has won four of the last eight Big 8 events at the famed quarter mile facility and is joined by seven time track Champion Bobby Wilberg and 2011 track Champion Ryan Carlson. Both Carlson and Wilberg posted runner-up efforts to Reynolds at Rockford last season. The past three event winners, Casey Johnson, Dale Nottestad and Reynolds will all be in contention for the win this weekend as well as defending Rockford NASCAR Late Model Champion Jerry Gille.

We have heard the saying Champions and Challengers for years in the short track ranks. The 36th annual Spring Classic on Sunday afternoon April 14 at Rockford Speedway is shaping up to fit the description and then some. As entries continue to roll in for the Big 8 Late Model Series presented by Gandrud Chevrolet portion of the event, eighteen modern day Late Model Championships are already accounted for. Additional heavy hitters are rumored to be setting their sights on Rockford April 14. Here is a look at the players that we know will BE THERE for the 108 lap feature event thus far.

The 2013 race season is upon us, the first action of the year will take place this Saturday afternoon April 6 at Rockford Speedway. The highlight of the day will be the WXRX Stone and Double T 200 Enduro which is slated to begin at 3pm featuring over 50 cars crammed onto the tight high banked quarter mile for 200 action packed laps. The popular Rockford morning show hosts will judge the halftime Stupid Human Tricks Contest. The second half of the event will be contested on the tricky “Monza” course which utilizes parts of the Figure 8 course.

Leilani Munter will be speaking in Rockford this Thursday April 4 from 11:30-1pm at Giovanni’s Restaurant during the Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful Earth Day Luncheon. Munter, who currently competes on the ARCA Stock Car Circuit across the nation helping to raise awareness for environmental causes, adopts an acre of rainforest for each race she competes in and was named the number one eco-athlete in the world by Discovery’s “Planet Green” in 2010. The Official Entry Blank for the 36th annual Spring Classic Big 8 Late Model Series event being contested at Rockford Speedway on Sunday afternoon April 14 is now available online at www.big8series.com. The 108 lap feature event marks many milestones for the ninth year series, including the return to the Hoosier Racing Tire family, utilizing the S800 tire which is now the choice of short tracks across the region. The new Weekly Warrior Wages program which rewards each driver up to $250 per event based on their weekly racing success and Big 8 Series presented by Gandrud Chevrolet accomplishments will also debut. The 1pm green flag officially brings the Midwest racing season to life during an afternoon which will also showcase the Mid-American Stock Car Series and Illinois Vintage Racing Series. The first official gathering of the 2013 Rockford Speedway will take place on Friday night March 1 at the Forest Hills Lodge located adjacent to the ¼ paved oval in Loves Park, IL. Doors will open at 5pm with the Rookie Orientation taking place at 6pm, the general meeting discussing licensing, race procedures and more will follow at 7pm. Race teams will be able to register their car numbers, purchase R.A.C.E. and NASCAR Memberships, reserve their season pit pads and pick up decal kits for the upcoming year.
